ABOUT

We believe cities are not defined by buildings or infrastructure, but by the moments when people feel seen, welcome, and less alone.

Across every city, there are places where connection happens —

- a bench where strangers talk,
- a library where someone feels safe,
- a café where community is formed.

These places often go unnoticed, even though they shape how a city feels to live in.

And they wouldn't exist without the people who initiate, shape and drive these conversations.

The Good Place Map of connection reflects the human side of cities — where belonging emerges through everyday encounters and stories.

A Good Place Map helps us see cities as shared spaces to care for.‍

Good citizens make good cities through everyday connection and belonging.

We make stories and places of connection visible.

TOOLS

We make stories and places of connection visible.

Through conversations. Through a bench. Through a podcast. Through a map.

FAQ
  • What is the Good Place Map?

The Good Place Map is a curated map with stories, places, and initiatives that strengthen connection and belonging in cities.

It helps people discover where they can participate, contribute and feel welcome — in real life. The map grew out of Good Place, which began as a podcast on a public bench, hosting conversations about life and place.

  • Is this a directory or an advertising platform?

No. The Good Place Map is not a commercial directory, ranking system or advertising platform. Organisations contribute to sustaining the map to showcase the social fabric infrastructure. A contribution does not guarantee visibility. All submissions are subject to curation and alignment with the Good Place values.

  • Who can be included?

Everyone. Stories, places, initiatives and communities that:

  • Encourage real-life connection and participation
  • Contribute positively to city life and connection amongst citizens
  • Are open, welcoming or accessible in meaningful ways

Commercial organisations may be included if connection and belonging are central to their purpose.

  • How does the contribution model work?

The map is sustained through annual contributions.
Contributions support curation, storytelling, platform maintenance, and long-term stewardship of the map. This is not sponsorship. It is stewardship of connection. Paying for contribution is not a guarantee.
All submissions are reviewed to ensure alignment with the Good Place principles. If a submission does not align, the contribution will be refunded.

  • Can individuals join?

Yes, as long as you fit the criteria of stories, places, and initiatives, with the goal of bringing together people for the better in cities.

  • Who runs the Good Place Map?

The Good Place Map is an initiative of A City Made By People, founded by Robin Cox.
